Position OverviewThis Post-Doctoral Associate role at NYU Abu Dhabi supports the Center for Translational Medical Devices with a focus on implant surface chemistry and polymer medical device development. - Enhance implant surface chemistry through plasma treatment, silanization, and specialty coatings
- Develop lubricious polymeric coatings for catheters to reduce vascular injury
- Characterize surface modifications using SEM, AFM, and related microscopy techniques
- Map nanomechanical properties including adhesion, friction, Young's modulus, and surface free energy
- Develop polymeric medical devices based on unmet clinical needs
- Design, fabricate, and prototype polymer-based medical devices
- Work with polymer processing techniques such as extrusion, molding, and fused deposition modeling
- Prepare ISO and ASTM test specimens for mechanical and flexural testing
- Perform dynamic mechanical analysis to estimate polymer transition temperatures
- Develop osteoconductive polymeric implants for surgical applications
- Model biomolecule adsorption using Quartz Crystal Microbalance techniques
- Develop orthotic assistive devices from sustainable polymers and composites
- Co-develop medical devices with industry partners and assist in intellectual property filings
- Prepare technology documentation and support translation of innovations to industry
- PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a closely related field
- Strong expertise in surface analysis and materials characterization
- Experience in AFM, SEM, and analytical evaluation of materials
- Background in polymer processing and device fabrication
- Strong analytical skills and experimental capability
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary scientific environment
- Effective scientific communication and documentation skills
- Surface chemistry modification and analysis
- Polymer processing and fabrication techniques
- Materials characterization using advanced microscopy
- Mechanical testing and dynamic mechanical analysis
- Prototype development for medical devices
- Ability to prepare research documentation and reports
