About the RoleThe Postdoctoral Scientist is responsible for the development and implementation of a dedicated research project fitting in the Center’s research directions. The Postdoctoral Scientist will develop methods to carry out hypothesis-led laboratory experiments as well as to study marine ecosystems/populations/individuals in situ.
The Postdoctoral Scientist will also contribute to the daily operations of the YSWRR for knowledge dissemination and education.
Main responsibilities include:
- Developing and carrying out a dedicated research project aligned with the Center’s priorities;
- Leading the production of scientific communication and articles;
- Developing local and international collaborations;
- Supervising high-school and undergraduate/postgraduate students.
- Acts as Principal Investigator on a dedicated research project from design to outcome delivery; with undertaking and supervision of routine laboratory and field operations and technical team
- Leads the production of high-quality scientific publications, research reports, and other communication material
- Conducts research effectively by maintaining accurate records of sampling/experiments/analyses performed, conducting relevant literature searches, and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of all current methods of experimentation
- Manages the permitting processes required to perform his/her research projects (Animal Ethics Committee, Government Permits, etc.)
- Supports the research training program
- Develops collaborative research with YSWRR colleagues and actively promotes external contacts and networks for local and international collaborations
- Develops and assists with educational initiatives and partnership, including citizen science projects and outreach events
- Supervises undergraduate/postgraduate students as well as high-school work experiences
- Coordinate with Research lab manager to secure supply and equipment inventory to sustain research and routine operations
- Supervises the adequate use, schedule and maintenance of the experimental laboratory equipment and facilities of the Center with production of SOPs and check lists/schedules
- Supports the rescue and research field operations when required
- Actively contributes to the outreach goals of the YSWRR
- Collaborates with Sea World Abu Dhabi Zoological and Education teams as required
- Contributes to the overall success of the YSWRRC projects by performing all other duties as assigned
- PhD in Marine Sciences, Marine Ecology and Biology, or related fields
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to represent the Yas Sea World Research and Rescue Center to scientific community, general public, media, government agencies, and non governmental associations
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to company values and safety
- Demonstrated competency in scientific investigation of tropical and/or sub-tropical marine species and ecosystems and/or aquaculture: field and/or laboratory-based research studies
