- Film and Media position within the Arts and Humanities division in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Working under the supervision of Prof. Surabhi Sharma, the successful candidate will contribute to documentary and film research spanning the Silk Route and Indian Ocean while gaining hands-on experience across pre-production, production, post-production, dissemination, and exhibition. The fellowship also provides structured mentorship for the Research Assistant 's own film project.

About the Fellowship This position forms part of the NYU Abu Dhabi Kawader program, a national capacity-building research fellowship designed to provide outstanding graduates with intensive experience in an academic research environment. The Film and Media position combines research assistance with practice-based filmmaking. The Research Assistant will support ongoing projects while receiving mentorship to develop an independent film project in the UAE, progressing from proposal writing and research through production and exhibition.

Film and Media Research One ongoing documentary project examines music along the Silk Route, extending from North-West China through Central Asia and South Asia to the Arab world. Research and production responsibilities associated with this project may require travel. A second film project investigates the circulation of people, material, and culture along Indian Ocean trade routes. The successful candidate will assist with research supporting the development of this work.

• Conduct research for the documentary project exploring music along the Silk Route from North-West China through Central Asia and South Asia to the Arab world.
• Support pre-production and production activities associated with the Silk Route documentary.
• Assist with research data management and organization.
• Participate in project-related travel where required.
• Conduct research for a new film project examining the circulation of people, material, and culture along Indian Ocean trade routes.
• Support the planning and execution of dissemination and exhibition activities for recent film projects.
• Accompany projects to selected film festivals where required.
• Develop an independent film project in the UAE with faculty mentorship covering proposal writing, research, pre-production, production, post-production, and exhibition.

• B.A. in Arts and Humanities with a Major or Minor in Film and New Media.
• Experience conducting research for the Arts.

Preferred Background NYU Abu Dhabi is particularly interested in candidates with relevant Arts and Humanities research experience. Experience conducting research within Arab Crossroads or Arab History is preferred.
