About The Role

We are at a critical juncture – building and scaling next‑generation payment systems across merchant acquiring and core payment processing, powering real‑time transaction flows at production scale. This high‑impact, cross‑platform role owns backend architecture, makes authoritative technical decisions across multiple squads, and directly shapes the technical direction of our payments platform.

• Architect and evolve systems spanning Merchant Management, POS, and eCommerce acceptance across acquiring and adjacent services.
• Own technical architectural direction and design decisions across multiple engineering squads, mentoring a pod of engineers.
• Work directly with Product Owners to translate product intent and regulatory requirements into scalable, auditable designs.
• Define integration architecture across card schemes, payment processors, and internal switches; lead code and architecture reviews while staying hands‑on with Java microservices.
• Design REST/JSON APIs with idempotency, fault tolerance, and exactly‑once semantics; drive event‑driven flows using RabbitMQ.
• Leverage AI coding assistants to automate repetitive tasks and generate code, tests, runbooks, and log triage.

• 12‑15 years of backend or platform engineering experience, including production card payment systems at a licensed fintech or payment processor.
• Expert‑level Java and Spring Boot proficiency with microservices design, transactional integrity, and production API development.
• Deep production‑proven command of ISO 8583 and payment messaging, architecture decisions on message design, switching topology, and connectivity.
• Experience integrating with payment gateways and processors, including REST, ISO, hosted pages, tokenisation, and EMV 3DS 2.x.
• Strong knowledge of RabbitMQ or Kafka, designing reliable transactional event flows and message broker topologies.
• Experience with Dubbo or a comparable RPC framework such as gRPC for synchronous inter‑service communication.
• Leadership of a pod of engineers, producing solution design documents, ADRs, and integration specifications.

• Required:
  
  Java, Spring Boot, ISO 8583, jPOS, MPGS/Cybersource/payment gateway, RabbitMQ/Kafka, Redis, gRPC, REST APIs, Microservices, Git Lab/Git Hub, MySQL/MongoDB/Elasticsearch.
• Strong Asset:
  Azure/AWS, 3DS (EMV 3DS 2.x), EMV, Tokenisation, Visa/Mastercard scheme integration, CI/CD, TOGAF.
