Senior Backend Engineer

Job description

Join a lean, high-calibre engineering team building distributed systems at significant scale. Design resilient backend services, drive architectural decisions, and solve complex performance challenges for a high-growth financial services platform

Our client is a technology-led financial services organisation building highly sophisticated platforms that operate at significant scale.

Architect and build large-scale distributed systems capable of supporting millions of users and tens of thousands of requests per second.

Design event-driven architectures, partitioning strategies, and highly scalable data platforms with a focus on reliability and fault tolerance.

Lead performance optimisation initiatives across application, infrastructure, storage, networking, and caching layers.

Own systems end-to-end, from architecture and development through production operations and continuous improvement.

Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-driven capabilities, to solve complex engineering and business challenges.

Extensive backend engineering experience building highly scalable, distributed systems in production environments.

Proven experience operating services handling 20,+ requests per second and large-scale user traffic.

Deep expertise in system design, distributed architecture, concurrency, partitioning, consistency models, and performance engineering.

Demonstrated success solving complex scaling, latency, reliability, and availability challenges in mission-critical platforms.

Strong technical curiosity with the ability to rapidly learn new technologies, domains, and AI capabilities independently.

Opportunity to solve genuinely complex engineering problems at significant scale within a highly technical environment.

Competitive compensation package alongside strong career growth and exposure to cutting-edge platform engineering challenges.
