Job Description
The main objective is to ensure safety of navigation and efficient marine operations by providing an essential safety and pollution prevention service within the ports and territorial waters of Abu Dhabi Ports. Therefore, this position includes overseeing and managing vessel traffic movement, coordinating, and ensuring adequate and timely provisions of nautical services and providing an initial response to maritime emergencies.
Responsibilities- Monitoring and regulating traffic to ensure compliance with all local, national and international regulations.
- Ensuring the safety of navigation within the VTS area to which they are assigned.
- Maintaining VHF communications with all traffic in the VTS area to which they are assigned on the channel or channels allocated.
- Promulgate routine VHF navigational safety broadcasts containing relevant navigational information, visibility reports and weather information.
- Monitoring of designated anchorages to ensure optimum use and that safe distance is maintained.
- Ensuring that radar surveillance of all areas, CCTV and AIS surveillance of the entire VTS area is maintained.
- Careful monitoring and operation of vessel traffic management systems as appropriate to the prevailing conditions to ensure safe flow of traffic through the entire area.
- Offer a pro‑active response to prevent the occurrence of dangerous maritime situations.
- Initiating and implementing emergency procedures including liaison with emergency services as appropriate.
- Co‑ordinate vessel arrivals, departures, and movements to facilitate voyage planning and forecasting.
- Report to the VTS Supervisor on:
- VTS equipment deficiencies
- Potentially hazardous situations
- Vessels not complying with legislation
- Vessels navigating dangerously or erratically
- Vessels carrying hazardous cargoes not previously declared
- Vessels having deficiencies not previously notified or recorded
- Carry out other related duties as required.
- Adheres to Safe Work instruction and SOPs.
- Adheres to Near miss and Incident reporting Senyar system.
Educational and Technical
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- VTS Certification log with C0103-1 Certificate.
- A qualification in maritime or transport matters, accompanied with related experience with C0103-1.
- Experience in Maritime Operations with valid C0103-1.
Language
Skills:
- Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and written in English, in order to be able to report adequately to superiors and to form good relations, negotiate and resolve conflicts with stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, including the ability to respond to the needs of team members and provide them with assistance when required.
- Good working knowledge of computers and conversant with computer applications and communication equipment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with third parties and retain professional demeanor in confrontational situations.
- Ability to carry out duties effectively and efficiently and according to defined objectives under minimal supervision.
- Ability to monitor the operational and functional integrity of communications equipment, computer and navigational aid.
- Knowledge of maritime regulations and terminology.
Years of
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years as a VTS Operator.
Nature of
Experience:
- Relevant experience in the region is preferable.
