Electrical Design Engineer – Control Systems & Automation

Join a specialist engineering business designing bespoke web‑transport and automation machinery for industrial applications. This is a hands‑on Electrical Design Engineer role where you’ll take ownership of electrical control system design, working closely with mechanical, software and production teams to deliver high‑quality machinery from concept through to commissioning.

• Design bespoke electrical control panels for web‑transport and automation machinery
• Produce detailed electrical schematics including control circuits, power distribution and safety systems
• Create wiring diagrams for motors, drives, sensors, actuators, HMIs and field devices
• Specify cable routing, connectors, field wiring schedules and termination details
• Generate accurate Bills of Materials for all electrical components
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (IEC/EN 60204‑1, Machinery Directive, CE/UL)
• Support panel build, testing, commissioning and fault‑finding activities
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, software and systems engineering teams
• Work with suppliers to select reliable and cost‑effective components

• Experience in electrical design for industrial control systems and machinery
• Strong background in control panel design and electrical documentation
• Proficiency with electrical CAD tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works Electrical or similar)
• Understanding of PLCs, VFDs, safety systems, motion control and industrial networks
• Knowledge of machinery safety standards and automation best practices
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple engineering projects
• Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering (degree, HND or equivalent experience)
