Position OverviewThe Ortho Assistant performs many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills. To effectively and efficiently assist the dentist in providing dental care to patients and to promote Familia Dental’s culture and mission and values.
Responsibilities / Duties- Maintaining accurate records of patients' oral health histories and treatment progress.
- Ensuring that all orthodontic instruments and equipment are properly sterilized before each use.
- Keeping patients’ mouths dry during orthodontic procedures by using a suction hose as needed.
- Taking intraoral X‑rays of patients’ mouths.
- Taking photographs of patients’ teeth to aid the Orthodontist in developing treatment plans and to document patient progress.
- Taking dental molds of patients’ teeth for the fabrication of customized mouth guards and retainers.
- Removing and replacing wires, coil springs, donuts, and elastic bands.
- Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices and braces aftercare.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Expert‑level knowledge of dental procedures and terminology.

- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
- In‑depth understanding of dental insurance and billing procedures.
- Proficiency in infection control and sterilization techniques.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and procedures quickly.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Working hours between:
Tue‑Th 8:30 am‑5:30 pm and Sat 8:30 am‑4:30 pm.
Part‑time employment: 2+ days a week, 29 hours or less per week; available to work Saturdays when needed; multiple half‑day shifts or fewer full‑day shifts.
