Event Manager / Planner
Under the general direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation, the Recreation Superintendent oversees and directs the broad and diverse service areas of the Recreation department operations. This position is responsible for analyzing staffing, operational, and programmatic needs as well as managing the budgetary process, maximizing revenue potential, and developing policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations for facilities and program areas.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and maintain department goals, objectives, and performance measures; identify current and future needs, monitor progress, and recommend improvements to enhance service delivery and resource effectiveness.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality recreation programs, services, and facilities in alignment with city and departmental goals; prioritize and assign work, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and foster a safe and healthy work environment.
- Manage the Addison Athletic Club and coordinate recreation programs including but not limited to athletic, aquatic, fitness, senior, children’s, Addison Outdoors and general recreation programs, special events, and daily operations; ensure safe and effective use of all facilities and assets in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as department policies and emergency action plans.
- Oversee staffing needs for the Recreation Services Division, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, disciplining, and making or recommending hiring and termination decisions; promote professional development and assist staff with procurement and operational needs.
- Assist the Parks & Recreation Director in the preparation and administration of department budget, present proposed budget to City Manager, forecast funding for special projects, equipment, staffing, programs, and services.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of recreation programs, services, and facilities; analyze performance metrics, identify operational improvements, and implement strategies to optimize resources and meet community needs.
- Monitors building, pool and equipment maintenance and work orders to ensure compliance with local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, codes, and standards; coordinate the replacement and maintenance of aquatics equipment to include filters, pool controllers, pumps and motors, pool plaster, and electrical upgrades.
- Respond to and resolve complex or sensitive citizen inquiries, complaints, and concerns related to programs, facilities, and services; work with staff to ensure high customer satisfaction and service standards.
- Monitors all record keeping functions; collects statistical information and develops corresponding reports.
- May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of supporting The Town’s Special Events Department.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration or related field; AND
- Five (5) years of recreation management experience including two (2) years of previous supervisory experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification and Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRE) Certification.
- Must possess current CPR, First-Aid and AED Certifications.
- Safe driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
- Knowledge of and proficient in using Active Net Rec Management Software.
- Knowledge of ADA regulations and compliance protocols.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Knowledge of management and programming of Community and Athletic Facilities.
- Skill in interacting with the public tactfully and professionally.
- Skill in customer service, conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Skill in developing and implementing budgets.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Work is performed in a standard office environment and throughout recreation facilities. Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially dangerous recreation and fitness equipment.
This is an exempt position; incumbent will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary to complete responsibilities.
