Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance (or the ability to obtain one)
- A Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field; or a relevant combination of education and experience
- Security+ certification
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification
- Cloud+ certification or the ability to acquire it within six months of hire
- 2–3 years of experience in AWS cloud operations, cloud security, or systems administration in a DoD or federal contracting environment
- Practical experience with AWS management tools such as Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail, IAM, and Guard Duty
- Familiarity with the ELK stack:
Filebeat, Logstash, Elasticsearch, Kibana for centralized log ingestion and monitoring - Capability to write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for onboarding and log collection workflows
- Experience with the Atlassian suite, including Jira and Confluence
- Proficiency in using Git for version control
- Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (RMF, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP) and compliance processes
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a proven record of meeting deadlines
- I monitor, manage, and update assigned AWS tickets and tasks within the tracking system, ensuring that all progress, blockers, and resolutions are well documented.
- I maintain accurate daily and weekly updates to assigned tickets and provide summary reports to the Supervisor and the Vice President of Operations.
- I write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for onboarding and log collection workflows.
- I promptly respond to customer inquiries within one hour and internal messages within fifteen minutes during core hours (0900–1600 EST).
- I identify and respond to blockers or configuration issues within one business day to ensure uninterrupted task progression.
- I support the implementation and enforcement of security controls, STIG compliance, and continuous monitoring requirements for AWS cloud environments.
- I assist in configuration management, patching, auditing, and documentation of AWS infrastructure resources (e.g., EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Cloud Trail).
- I participate in internal and customer meetings to provide system status updates, technical input, and progress reports.
- I adhere to all company policies, including timekeeping, attendance, and reporting requirements, submitting leave requests and notifying both the Supervisor and Program Team Lead of any absences or changes in availability.
- I maintain professional communication and collaboration with colleagues, leadership, and customer stakeholders at all times.
This AWS Security Engineer position is part of our Cloud Operations Team supporting a Department of Defense (DoD) program. I am responsible for ensuring the secure, compliant, and efficient operation of AWS cloud environments hosting mission-critical systems and services. This hybrid role is primarily remote but may require occasional on-site presence in Adelphi, Maryland, for meetings, reviews, or operational coordination. The position demands strong communication skills, technical expertise, and consistent accountability.
I play an essential role in upholding compliance with federal cloud security requirements and supporting the overall performance, reliability, and integrity of our Cloud Operations mission.
