Fire Chief

The City of Adrian (population 20,500) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire Chief. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), ALS ambulance operations, and departmental administration.

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for fire and EMS operations.
• Develop, implement, and enforce departmental policies, procedures, and community safety programs.
• Oversee incident management, personnel administration, recruitment, and training.
• Manage departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and operational planning.
• Supervise all departmental staff and collaborate with Human Resources on labor negotiations and employee relations.
• Oversee Fire Inspection Division.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Master’s Degree is preferred.
• At least seven (7) years of progressive experience in fire service, with significant supervisory or command-level experience strongly preferred.
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• Certification as Fire Officer III.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Licensed Paramedic.
• Michigan Professional Emergency Manager Designation.
• Certification as Fire Inspector.
• Demonstrated experience in community engagement and interagency collaboration.
