Position: JOB OPPORTUNITY – School Nurse – Full Time – District-Wide
DAYS/HOURS

200 Day Calendar

++SALARY++

$50,000 with two person and or Full Family Health Care
$55,000 with single health care

++SUMMARY++

K-12 Districtwide nurse to provide Direct Medical care to students with health related issues. Also develop and coordinate health plans for students.

++REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS++

The school nurse reports to the building administrator.

++QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS++

++ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES++
  • Provide direct medical care to students with health-related issues.
  • Provide/Facilitate Care for Students with Diabetes and Catheters.
  • Develop and Coordinate Health plans for students with medical conditions such as seizures, diabetes, asthma, allergies, and other such plans.
  • Identify students with health-related issues.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and administrators related to health care plans.
  • Arrange for appropriate documentation and authorization for dispensing of medications in the school setting.
  • When legally appropriate, delegate, train and supervise non-licensed lay staff to carry out certain nursing responsibilities, (e.g. dispensing of medication in the school setting, tube feeding, EPI
    - Pen, cardiac, diabetic, Narcan, COVID testing)
  • Conduct special education health evaluations and attend IEPC when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with local health agencies and attend meetings when required.
  • Advise Administration, Staff, Parents, and Board on best practices in public health and disease containment and prevention.
  • Train and certify staff in CPR and basic first aid.
  • Conduct regular visits and communication to each building in the District.
  • Coordinate with Physicians for student care if possible school impact. Communication may be both intermittent and regular in nature.
  • Coordinate Heart Smart in each building of the District.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • ++SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES++

  • ++EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE++
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing
  • Knowledge of students with disabilities preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public health
  • Active Michigan license to practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Michigan Department of Education Nurse Certification
  • ++LANGUAGE SKILLS++

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general counseling periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

    ++MATHEMATICAL SKILLS++

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    ++REASONING ABILITY++

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on di"1sion and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
