Overview
Lead Veterinary Technician at Priority Pet Urgent Care
Responsibilities- Direct on-the-job training to develop employee skills
- Advise employees on performance requirements and their progress
- Discuss corrective measures to improve performance and prepare appraisals
- Provide direction for efficient work flow
- Assist with onboarding newly hired staff members
- Assist with creating staff schedules and adjusting coverage where needed
- Work on the floor with the team completing veterinary technician duties, including animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management
- A Registered Veterinary Technician with 3+ years veterinary experience preferred; non-licensed individuals with 5+ years experience and previous leadership experience will be considered
- Previous urgent care or ER experience is preferred but not required
- Strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills
- Team player who works well with all team members to support the hospital, doctors, and practice philosophy
- Ability to direct, guide, and assist a group, with a desire to teach others to build a well-rounded team
- Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures and hospital operations
- Knowledge of commonly used veterinary terminology and accurate entry into patient records
- Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques
- Proficiency in sample collection methods (blood, urine, fecal, skin)
- Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture
- Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring
- Self-starter with a desire to continue advancing knowledge and skills
- Ability to show unbiased judgment in personnel matters and to make fair recommendations
- Ability to receive constructive feedback professionally to maintain hospital efficiency
- Exceptional customer service skills and precise communication
- High work ethic, positive attitude, and highly organized with computer skills
- Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards
