Director of Nursing – Brand New SUD Treatment Program

Location: Agawam, MA

Salary: $85,000–$100,000 annually (based on experience)

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday (on-call as needed)

We are excited to announce an outstanding opportunity to join our newest program in Agawam, MA, a state‑of‑the‑art facility specializing in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment for adults. As we prepare to open our doors, we’re seeking a visionary Director of Nursing to lead, develop, and shape our nursing operations from the ground up.

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing provides overall leadership for the nursing department, ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality, and compliant care. You will oversee all nursing staff, establish clinical practices, lead policy development, and collaborate with the executive and medical leadership teams to drive operational excellence across the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    >

    Develop, implement, and oversee nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols meet regulatory and agency standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the nursing team, including Nurse Managers, RNs, LPNs, and PRN staff.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to plan and manage nursing budgets, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure all admissions, assessments, and ongoing care documentation comply with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee completion of vitals, COWS/CIWA assessments, EMRs, MARs, and DEA/narcotic logs.
  • Conduct regular audits of clinical documentation and patient care to maintain quality and compliance.
  • Represent the nursing department in survey preparation and interactions with state and accrediting agencies.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, clinical excellence, and compassionate care.
  • Respond to and resolve complex client and staff concerns in a professional manner.
  • Drive initiatives for staff development, ongoing training, and professional growth within the nursing team.
Supervisory Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing provides direct supervision to all nursing staff, including managers and clinical personnel, ensuring adherence to clinical standards, scope of practice, and regulatory expectations. This role also supports leadership development within the nursing team and fosters a high‑performing, collaborative environment.

Qualifications Education, Licensure, & Experience
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in Massachusetts.

    Current/BLS and First Aid certifications.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment.
  • Previous experience managing multi‑level nursing teams strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong clinical judgment, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulatory standards in behavioral healthcare.
  • Ability to lead through change and support team growth in a new program environment.>
Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires standing, walking, and occasional. The work environment is primarily indoors, with moderate noise levels. Local travel may be required. Exposure to healthcare environments may include contact with infectious agents or emotionally charged situations.
