Specialist, EMEA Payroll Accounting (Record to Report)

The Impact:  The EMEA Payroll Accounting Specialist (Reporting to Manager, GL Controls, Record to Report )  is responsible for the end to end accounting of payroll for all EMEA entities where S&P Global (SPGI) payroll is processed. The role ensures that payroll transactions are accurately reflected in the General Ledger, supports month end close, performs balance sheet reconciliations, and maintains strict SOX compliance.

The specialist works closely with internal payroll teams, country controllers, external auditors, and vendors to deliver reliable financial reporting and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities & Impact:
Analyze payroll reports from the SPGI payroll team and verify that every transaction is correctly posted to the company's General Ledger for all EMEA countries.

Review payroll balance‑sheet accounts for unusual activity; collaborate with local country controllers to prepare and book necessary journal entries, ensuring accounting accuracy for reporting.

Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations for payroll‑related accounts (net‑pay clearing, tax/social liabilities, pension, benefits, inter‑company payroll, FX revaluation where applicable).

Support monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close for Business Units and Global Controllers, including accruals recording and reporting to EMEA Controllership.

Prepare and classify journal entries needed to clear reconciliations and resolve variances.

Provide ad‑hoc support for Record‑to‑Report (R2R) projects as assigned by team leads.

Liaise with external auditors on any ad‑hoc requests and ensure audit readiness.

Back‑fill and support other accountants in the team during peak periods or absences.

Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Experience:

2-4 years of payroll and benefits accounting and reconciliation experience required



Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
