The City of Aiken is accepting applications for Summer Day Camp Counselors in our Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department. This temporary position is for the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center. The Summer Day Camp Counselor will provide direct supervision of a group of children between the ages of 5 and 12. Day Camp Counselors foster a positive, inclusive, and safe environment.
This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young campers while gaining valuable leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Planning daily activities for campers indoors (arts, crafts, games, etc.) and outdoors (sports, swimming, nature experiences, etc.)
- Driving/chaperoning weekly outings
- Interacting positively with children during all hours of camp
- Adhering to program standards for safety and cleanliness
- Attending staff meetings and trainings
- Following City policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
- Maintaining positive relations with parents and other staff
Hours are primarily Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm, but there may be some evenings and weekends required based on camp needs. Working dates are May 20th, 21st, and May 25, 2026 - July 17, 2026 (closed on July
3).
- Experience in childcare or education (preferred)
- Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Must be able to obtain an American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certification, and be able to pass a defensive driving course provided by the City of Aiken
