Engineering Support roles encompass a diverse range of positions that provide technical assistance and expertise to engineering teams across various disciplines. These roles may involve tasks such as conducting research, performing analyses, and assisting in the design and development of engineering projects. Engineering support professionals work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure projects meet quality standards, deadlines, and budgetary constraints.

Engineering specialists support engineers in the design, modification, improvement, and maintenance of products, processes, and systems in support of nuclear facility operations and missions. Activities include identifying and recommending improvements/preventive actions, inspecting, testing, maintaining, repairing, and installing equipment and systems. They may develop/configure software and/or applications. They monitor processes, estimate costs, make, or verify calculations, and analyze and interpret data. They test new and modified products, processes, and/or systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Engineering specialists support engineers in the design, modification, improvement, and maintenance of products, processes, and systems in support of nuclear facility operations and missions.
  • Provide identification and recommendation of improvements/preventive actions; inspect, test, maintain, repair, and install equipment and systems.
  • Develop/configure software and/or applications; monitor processes; estimate costs; make or verify calculations; analyze and interpret data.
  • Test new and modified products, processes, and/or systems.
  • Metrology Engineers apply measurement science, mathematics, physics, and engineering principles to develop and/or design and support measurement systems, processes, and procedures for calibration of measurement and test equipment based on analysis of measurement problems, accuracy and precision requirements.
  • Use statistics to analyze calibration standards and processes; evaluate new calibration methods and procedures; recommend calibration standards.
  • Monitor compliance with calibration laboratory and/or departmental processes.
  • Support calibration in at least two of the identified measurement disciplines.
  • Instrument and system development: develop and/or design and support systems, processes, methods and procedures for calibrating M&TE based on analysis of measurement problems, accuracy and precision requirements.
  • Calibration and maintenance: perform calibration, verification, and maintenance on metrology equipment to ensure ongoing accuracy and performance.
  • Data analysis: analyze metrology data to assess calibration quality, identify trends, perform statistical analysis, and correlate results with performance metrics; develop uncertainty budgets.
