The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is seeking a part-time Veterinarian to join our wellness team. We are a well-respected 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a veterinary clinic, animal rescue and thrift store servicing the needs of our community.

We offer veterinarians a purpose-driven practice saving lives and making a difference in our community, one animal at a time.

We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate individuals that practice excellent medicine, communication, and customer service skills to become a part of the SPCA family.

The SPCA Albrecht Center’s Veterinary Care Center is a full-service clinic providing medical care to shelter pets, as well as being open to the public. We are a Humane Alliance certified high quality, high volume spay/neuter clinic operating inside a limited admission, non-profit animal shelter with an intake of approximately 1,300 shelter pets per year. Our facility is fully equipped with a full-service lab, digital x‑ray, ultrasound, and dental equipment.

Job Requirements
  • Provide comprehensive medical assessments, diagnostics, and treatments for walk‑in clients and shelter pets.
  • Participate in daily medical rounds, case reviews, and collaborate with veterinary and animal care staff on treatment plans.
  • Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and up‑to‑date in accordance with shelter protocols.
  • Oversee and/or conduct intake exams on transports of animals.
  • Apply best practices in shelter medicine to and prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Work closely with the shelter team to ensure biosecurity, sanitation, and disease monitoring protocols.
  • Collaborate with shelter leadership to establish care protocols and evaluate treatment outcomes.
  • Oversee care and make prompt, humane decisions for critical care or euthanasia cases as appropriate.
  • Support the education of shelter staff and volunteers through training sessions, workshops, and mentorship.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of medical supplies and medications.
  • Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary technicians.
  • Actively promote spay/neuter and adoption and educate clients on responsible pet ownership.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Provide emergency advice and possible care for shelter animals after hours on a rotating basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • SC veterinary license.
  • DEA license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Shelter medicine experience preferred.
  • Graduate with a DVM or VMD from a US accredited veterinary school.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates compassion, empathy, and flexibility.
  • Prior experience in shelter strongly preferred.
Work Schedule

Part —time. Monday – Friday 12:30 pm-5 pm. On‑call hours on a rotating basis (for shelter animals only).

Additional Qualification

DVM licensure or equivalent for SC.
