JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/ObjectiveThe Utility Locator is responsible for accurately, safely, and efficiently locating and marking the Cooperative’s underground utilities, including electric and telecommunication facilities, in compliance with South Carolina 811 (SC811) requirements. This position requires providing professional and courteous service to Cooperative members, employees and the general public.

Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; confined space; risk of electrical shock; explosives. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
The employee works around trenchers, line trucks, live electrical lines, oil spills and cleanup operations. This role also utilizes standard office equipment, including tablets, computers, phones, and copiers. The position requires the ability to safely operate motor vehicles and equipment in a variety of work environments.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to regularly walk or stand, drive a motor vehicle, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. The employee must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and audible warnings and must be able to distinguish colors to accurately identify and mark underground utilities and safety indicators.
The employee may be required to climb or balance and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
TravelRegular travel to local and state destinations is required, with occasional interstate travel as necessary.
