The Waste Diversion Education Assistant provides residents with options for managing their residential/household waste through services and education, considering environmental, social, and economic impacts. Waste and Recycling Services endeavors to position Airdrie as a municipal leader in environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities Include:
• Assist the Education Advisor in supporting the City of Airdrie’s Cart Wizard Program to promote and encourage waste diversion which includes:
- visual audits on curbside carts to check for compliance with the City of Airdrie’s waste management programs
- collect data through use of technology and/or manual means
- respond to inquiries from residents throughout the program
- input data from the results of the audits and assist in analysis of the data
- planning and scheduling map routes
• Support the Education Advisor in the delivery of interactive presentations and programs at community events
• Perform other duties as assigned
You Bring:
• Possess some education or training in a related field (environment, public works, sustainability, waste management)
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license
• Waste audit experience is an asset
• Knowledge and understanding of waste and recycling best practices is an asset
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to work on your feet for most of each day in all weather conditions
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with the public in a positive manner
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information in a clear and logical way that captures the attention of the audience
• Ability to manage multiple projects, problem solve and adapt to an ever-changing environment
• Ability to work under time constraints

Additional Information:
• This is a full-time term (16 weeks) position requiring 37.5 hours per week
• Must be available to start May 1, 2026.
• The role requires frequent walking outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Remote or Hybrid work is not available for this position
• Duties may be physically demanding and can involve lifting and moving heavy materials
• The successful candidate must provide a current driver’s abstract prior to the start date. A city vehicle is provided for work related tasks.
