Substitute Teachers - School Year
Rocky View Schools (RVS) invites applications for substitute teachers for the school year. Substitute teachers are called to substitute teach on an as-needed basis at any of our schools. You must be available to work throughout the school year, be accessible by telephone and internet, and provide your own transportation.
RVS is situated on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta and supports a diverse learning community across 53 schools serving more than 29,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

The OpportunitySubstitute teachers for the school year are hired without a formal interview to be added to the substitute teacher list. A positive reference letter from a recent supervisor, attached to the job application on company letterhead and dated within the past 18 months, will be used to approve placement on the substitute list. Applications should include a professional letter of reference.
Qualificationsand Requirements
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial environment with all members of the learning community
- Understanding of and commitment to a teaching style congruent with RVS' vision, mission, and beliefs
- Strong pedagogical understanding as it relates to a variety of curricula
- Ability to quickly engage students in their learning while ensuring a classroom climate of respect and safety
- No minimum day availability required to be a substitute teacher with RVS
- No minimum geographic area selection required
Additional notes:
Substitute Teachers are now eligible to access the supplemental benefits package at their own cost. A current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check (within 30 days of start) is required.
- The successful candidate must submit a current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of the start of employment.
- Applicants must provide a professional letter of reference, attached to the job application, from their most recent supervisor, relevant to the job opportunity, written on company letterhead, signed and dated within the past 18 months.
- The successful candidate must possess, or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate, and provide Human Resources with an original of their Teacher Qualifications Service (TQS) document.
