Stormwater Tech​/Labourer Term; Seasonal

The City of Airdrie is currently recruiting for two (2) seasonal Stormwater employees in the Water Services and Wastewater department. These positions will support Water Services and Wastewater by monitoring and maintaining stormwater infrastructure, riparian areas and Nose Creek.

The ideal candidates will have a background in environmental science, water quality monitoring, invasive species identification and control and municipal stormwater infrastructure. Responsibilities Include:

• Perform field inspections and repairs of stormwater infrastructure including outfalls, culverts, oil and grit separators, swales, and stormwater ponds

• Conduct water quality monitoring within stormwater ponds and Nose Creek

• Conduct general maintenance activities including sediment, vegetation, and debris removal from within and adjacent to stormwater management ponds, swales, and Nose Creek

• Conduct invasive species removal from within stormwater management facilities

• Install and maintain stormwater treatment initiatives including floating islands and wetland vegetation

• Monitor for algae growth

• Respond to residents’ concerns regarding drainage issues and stormwater management facilities

• Communicate with residents at events to promote water conservation and watershed health

• Assist with the collection of GIS data

You Bring:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Completion of or working towards a diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, or similar, is preferred

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence

• Background in environmental science, water quality monitoring, invasive species identification and control and municipal stormwater infrastructure is an asset

• Familiarity with municipal government operations would be considered an asset

• Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles and equipment safely and effectively in all conditions

• Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to provide outstanding customer services

• Ability to complete various physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions

• Aptitude for various computer programs and digital data collection devices

• Ability to communicate professionally with Airdrie residents during day-to-day interactions and educational events

Additional Information:

This is a four‑month term position, scheduled at 40 hours per week
