Sr. Electrical Designer

Responsibilities   Provides design services by gathering information, making studies, computing calculations, and preparing detailed design and deliverables in accordance with project requirements
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals
Coordinates design criteria with engineering providing layout skid packages including MCC building, cable tray and lighting layouts, and motor schematic drawings
Investigates pertinent design factors, such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements
Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to codes, regulations, and standards, procedures, specifications, critical interface compatibility, productibility aspects, and dimensional accuracy of calculations
Checks for conformity to design/drafting standards, design specifications, and economy of fabrication and identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies
Coordinates assigned engineering and design work with other project groups
Recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers
Participates in project planning and execution, man-hour estimation, and schedule development
Supervises and provides technical direction to intermediate and junior designers
Education   A degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent education and experience
ASET membership is an asset
Experience   15 years of directly related experience in electrical design of oil and gas processing facilities with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Canadian industry
5 years’ checking experience

Experience with an EPC work environment
Fabrication shop designing and checking experience
Proficiency in latest version of AutoCAD
Other   2-3 years’ experience with 3D CADWorx
3+ years’ experience with 2D Acad

Experience with Autodesk programs including AutoCAD and Inventor
Familiarity with CEC, NEC industry regulations, and standards
Must be eligible to work in Canada

Manager is readily available for assistance and guidance
Work is reviewed for accuracy and conformance with prescribed procedures
Specific Work Conditions   The work is performed in an office setting and requires the need to deal with a diversity of people when responding to interdepartmental inquiries
Coping with frequent interruption and changing priorities
Required to attend meetings at other buildings
