Our challenge:

We are seeking a skilled Release Engineer for an infrastructure initiative, migrating our enterprise environment from RHEL 7 to RHEL 9. In this role, you will be working for both platform modernization and security improvement. You will be responsible for building secure packages, container images, and automating the entire software supply chain to eliminate vulnerabilities (CVES).

The Role

Responsibilities:

1. OS Migration & Package Engineering

  • Execute the technical transition of applications and services from RHEL 7 to RHEL 9, ensuring binary compatibility and resolving library dependencies.
  • Build and compile open-source packages from source code to meet specific project requirements.
  • Perform manual and automated troubleshooting of library dependencies and binary compatibility issues.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of RPM packages

2. Containerization & Orchestration

  • Refactor legacy container strategies, moving from Docker-centric workflows to Podman
  • Architect and maintain Rancher-managed Kubernetes environments, ensuring seamless workload migration across OS versions.
  • Migrate legacy containerized workloads to RHEL 9 Universal Base Images (UBI).

3. Automation & CI/CD

  • Develop and maintain complex Jenkins pipelines using Groovy Shared Libraries.
  • Build custom automation tools and APl integrations using Python to streamline vulnerability reporting and remediation.

4. Vulnerability Management

  • Review vulnerability scan reports and take direct action to patch or remediate identified CVEs.
  • Ensure all new RHEL 9 builds meet company security standards and compliance benchmarks.
  • Update base images and software dependencies regularly to maintain a secure software supply chain

Requirements:

You are:

  • Linux Expert: 3+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including knowledge of RHEL 9 features.
  • Coding/Scripting: Proficiency in Python (for development) and Groovy (for Jenkins DSL).
  • Container: Practical experience building and managing images with Docker, Podman and Rancher/Kubernetes.
  • Build Systems: Experience with Make, Make, and GCC for building software from source.
  • CI/CD Tools: Advanced experience with Jenkins, specifically building scalable, code-based pipelines.
  • Security Mindset: Proven experience in vulnerability remediatior
  • Experience with Ansible for large-scale OS configuration

Nice-to-have:

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience with Helm, Istio, or other Kubernetes ecosystem tools.
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Security certifications (CISSP, OSCP).
  • Advanced scripting skills beyond Python and Groovy.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management tools like Clair, Trivy, or Anchore.
  • Certifications like RHCE, CKA, CKAD.
