The OpportunityRVS invites applications for a continuing, full‑time (40 hrs/wk - afternoons) Building Operator III position starting July 6, 2026 at Ranch View School and Mitford School. Under the supervision of the Head Building Operator (HBO), the Building Operator provides caretaking services at each assigned Rocky View Schools (RVS) facility. The Building Operator acts as the evening Supervisor and is responsible for leading a team that keeps school buildings, grounds, contents, and furnishings in good appearance, and in clean, tidy, sanitary condition, as assigned by the HBO.
In addition, the Building Operator may be asked to support minor maintenance duties and manage the security of the facility and building systems at all times while at work.
Ranch View School, located in the Town of Cochrane, serves students from grades K‑8 including the Pre‑Kindergarten program.
Mitford School, located in the Town of Cochrane, serves English and French Immersion students from grades 5‑8.
Responsibilities- Engages actively in janitorial duties, including cleaning of the school and the grounds (90 % of this position is cleaning)
- Reports any defects, damages, or loss of school property to the Head Building Operator
- May coordinate cleaning duties of caretakers
- Keeps all sidewalks, steps, and entrances free from ice and snow as assigned
- Ensures temperatures in the school building are maintained during the shift
- Checks on the proper operation of heating, plumbing, and electrical systems; reports any problems promptly to the Head Building Operator
- Security duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years’ previous experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a Caretaking setting
- 3–5 years previous caretaking/cleaning experience
- Valid Alberta operator’s license (class
5) - Valid Building Operator A or B Ticket or a 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate considered an asset
- Certifications from cleaning organization considered an asset
- Previous experience within a school division considered an asset
- An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered
- Working knowledge of proper cleaning procedures
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Effective supervisory skills, including training and delegating
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient on Microsoft Office Suite and web‑based applications
- Must be available to work afternoons and evenings during peak periods within the year
- Must be available to work the day shift with prior notice, approximately 1–2 days per month, as well as during school closures (Winter break, Spring break, summer break)
