Paint Line Lead

Eaton’s ES AMER PCS division is currently seeking a Paint Line Lead at Eaton Airdrie, a fully integrated manufacturing plant that has been serving Canadian businesses for over 44 years. The role supports both national and global markets.

The hourly rate for this position is $30–$35 per hour and the role is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

Job Overview

Position is based in Airdrie, Alberta. The Paint Line Lead reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for manually and automatically painting manufactured parts using the powder coating paint system, providing daily leadership to the paint line team, and ensuring continuous operation while meeting quality, productivity, TPM, cost, and 5S goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to ISO
    9001:2008/EQS quality procedures and work instructions.
  • Lead, train, and mentor the team of painters and support staff.
  • Paint all parts required for production, including parts supplied to other Eaton facilities and items reworked due to defects or damages.
  • Assign daily tasks to the paint line team according to the production schedule and allocate activities to departmental meetings, quality meetings, and 5S activities.
  • Mark orders as started or completed on DMM.
  • Carry out inventories of chemicals, spare parts, and general supplies; communicate requests and place orders through the Ariba system.
  • Record quality check results and maintain required documentation.
  • Use the visual board to track orders and information related to SDS and FIFI’s.
  • Perform daily chemical testing, environmental tank cleaning, and chemical handling as required.
  • Operate the burn‑off oven system when required.
  • Conduct standard maintenance and ongoing equipment quality inspections; notify Maintenance Department of any issues to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure finished parts meet quality criteria, including identification and palletizing requirements.
  • Keep the area well organized to manage rework parts.
  • Maintain a positive commitment to pollution prevention and environmental protection, following EHS guidelines for chemicals.
  • Store chemicals in their designated spots and handle them per the Safe Work procedure.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance paint quality.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Manual and automated operation and maintenance of the powder coat paint system.
  • Perform regular physic‑chemical tests (adhesion, coating thickness, concentration, pH, conductivity).
  • Interpret hazardous material and storage guidelines.
  • Work in an environment requiring tight‑fitting respiratory protective equipment.
  • Wear all required PPE when working in a paint line.
  • Enter confined spaces and follow entry requirements.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills for leading and mentoring the paint team.
Working Conditions
  • Wearing required PPE, including complete shaving for respirator mask.
  • Noise exposure.
  • Ergonomics risks: repetitive motion, holding spray guns, awkward postures.
  • Manual lifting up to 40lbs; maneuvering parts up to 100lbs.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Climbing steps and ladders.
  • Twisting, bending, and crouching.
  • Risk of cuts from handling tools and material.
  • Heat from ovens and wash bays.
  • Static discharge risk from painting.
  • Dusty environment related to powdered paint operations.
  • Occasional exposure to liquid chemicals.
  • Confined spaces and restricted spaces.
Qualifications
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in paint lines within manufacturing environments.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
  • Residence within 80km of Airdrie.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge and practice of safety precautions related to working with machines and punch presses.
  • Ability to recognize quality issues and make judgments.
  • Experience using FINN Power computer console and associated components.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
