Profile Summary

Service Technicians and industrial mechanics install, maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. Industrial mechanics are employed in manufacturing plants, utilities, and other industrial establishments.

Specific Functions
  • Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Install, align, dismantle, and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces, and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks, and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set‑up, and repair of machinery.
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls.
  • Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts.
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance, or set‑up of machinery.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery.
  • Construct foundations for machinery or direct other workers to construct foundations.
  • Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.
  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment for repair or transportation.
  • Construct and install equipment such as shafting, conveyors and tram rails.
  • Review and interpret engineering specifications, schematics, and blueprints to determine work procedures.
  • Have knowledge of hydraulics, belt systems, motors, and other industrial machine mechanisms essential for job procedures.
  • Transfer equipment to the applicable site for maintenance to avoid contamination or safety hazards.
  • Grind and file machine parts.
  • Work with a range of hand tools including measuring tools, welding, and brazing equipment.
  • Dismantle machinery, transfer equipment, interpret blueprints, and install equipment.
  • Determine which machines, techniques, and tools to use when moving equipment and completing jobs.

Other Responsibilities Include
  • Occupational Health and Safety – Understanding and applying the GN Corporations Inc. Health and Safety policy and being responsible for one’s own health and safety at work, to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others.
  • Industry Standards and Regulations – Being familiar with all relevant industry standards, recommended practices, and regulations; monitoring self‑compliance with company, industry and government requirements and promoting acceptance in all aspects of GN’s business‑related activities.
Minimum Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification, or a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Service Technician or similar role.
  • In‑depth knowledge of industrial equipment and machinery.
  • Good communication skills.
