We have partnered with a private family estate to hire an experienced, hands‑on Horticulturist Groundskeeper (Landscape Lead) to support the ongoing care and enhancement of a large, well‑established estate located just west of Calgary’s city limits.

This Horticulturist Groundskeeper is an informal lead position within a collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will work alongside a small crew that shares collective responsibility for day‑to‑day property care, while also taking a more active role in larger projects, seasonal planning, plant health, ordering, and overall estate presentation.

This opportunity is ideal for someone who brings strong horticultural knowledge, enjoys working outdoors year‑round, and takes pride in maintaining high standards across expansive and meticulously cared‑for grounds. You are someone who leads by example, is comfortable rolling up your sleeves, and naturally steps into coordination and planning responsibilities when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The key job functions are:

  • Performing general grounds and property maintenance including mowing, trimming, planting, and seasonal clean‑up
  • Assisting with irrigation, landscaping features, and general outdoor upkeep
  • Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and light utility vehicles
  • Supporting basic mechanical upkeep and routine equipment maintenance
  • Assisting with tree, brush, and debris removal and material hauling
  • Maintaining walkways and outdoor areas, including snow and ice removal in winter conditions
  • Keeping work areas, vehicles, and tools clean and organized
  • Supporting team members and contractors as needed to complete daily tasks safely and efficiently

Education:

  • Post‑secondary coursework or certification in horticulture, landscaping, environmental landscaping, or turf management an asset
  • Horticulture Technician, Landscape Technician, or similar trade certificate strongly preferred

Qualifications:

  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
  • Comfortable commuting to rural worksite
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Clean criminal background check
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime or seasonal schedule changes

Experience:

  • Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, labour, construction support, or similar outdoor work environments
  • Past experience working in greenhouses an asset
  • Experience operating small equipment or willingness to learn

Skills:

  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing repetitive physical tasks
  • Strong work ethic with a team‑oriented attitude
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort using tools
  • Ability to follow direction and adapt to changing priorities

Base Salary: $60,000 – 75,000 per year

  • Compensation based on experience and qualifications
  • Additional perks and benefits will be discussed during the interview process

Work Hours:

  • Full‑time hours, Monday to Friday with occasional extended hours depending on operational needs

  • This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
