Consultant Urologist

We are recruiting a Consultant Urologist for a well‑established Urology Unit in the third‑largest Health Board in Scotland. The department currently employs nine consultants and plans to expand. Our services include Endo‑Urology, Upper Tract Laparoscopy, Pelvic Oncology, General Urology, robotic pelvic surgery (Da Vinci) and laser procedures (Thulium, Holmium).

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH) Service and develop a bespoke BPH pathway.
  • Coordinate BPH services across the Urology Hub at University Hospital Monklands, with support from Wishaw and Hairmyres through outpatient, nursing and diagnostic sessions.
  • Redesign the entire BPH care pathway – vetting, outpatient review, surgical treatment – in line with GIRFT and BAUS principles.
  • Offer up to 2 EPA sessions for additional outpatient or procedural work, depending on subspecialty interest.
  • Propose additional SPA time for service improvement, quality assurance, patient safety, medical education, research, and appraisal activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the health board’s educational initiatives and contribute to teaching of medical students.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Full registration and license to practice with the GMC.
  • Recent or established consultant experience in urology, ideally with interest in sub‑specialties such as endourology or pelvic oncology.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and teaching.
  • Willingness to work as part of a full‑time post (10 PA, up to 2 non‑DCC) or less if mutually agreed.
