The Role

The postholder will provide highly specialist neuropsychological assessment and intervention as part of the Neuropsychology Service in NHS Lanarkshire.

The post-holder will be based in University Hospital Monklands, with clinics located in North and South Lanarkshire. Working under the Clinical Lead for Neuropsychology, the post-holder will undertake neuropsychological assessment and intervention with patients with organic and functional neurological disorders, and provide consultation to medical, nursing and rehabilitation staff.

Supervised clinical experience in neuropsychology (e.g. neuropsychology placements during training or post-qualification roles) is essential for the role. The post-holder will be expected to have specialist knowledge of- and experience working with- organic and functional neurological conditions, such as brain injury, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, non-epileptic seizures etc.

Completion of PG Dip/ MSc in Clinical Neuropsychology is advantageous but not essential.

In this key role, you will:

Autonomous psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of older people’s mental health problems. This covers a broad range of difficulties including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, childhood sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive‑compulsive disorder, adjustment to physical health problems, pathological grief reaction, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and frontotemporal dementia. This also includes neuropsychological evaluation of suspected cognitive impairment.

Psychological formulation involves taking into account complex information from many sources (e.g. client, carer, staff) and utilising several theoretical frameworks (e.g. CBT, solution‑focused, counselling, attachment theory) to develop a shared understanding with the client of the development and maintenance of their difficulties, and using this to collaboratively design and empirically based intervention.

Management of own and Trainee Clinical Psychologists’ caseloads and individual client’s treatment plans, including decisions around discharge and future care

Clinical responsibility for own work and that of Trainee Clinical Psychologists

Maintenance of individual case records and contribution to multidisciplinary records.

Assessment of suicide and other clinical risk and management of the same

Communication with other service providers involved in a client’s care via written reports, telephone calls and face‑to‑face meetings.

Participation in relevant multi‑disciplinary clinical team meetings e.g. memory clinic MDT meetings

What You'll Bring:

Good Honours degree in psychology (2.1 or above)
Post graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology
Registered with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical Psychologist
Post graduate education in clinical supervision accredited by a relevant training course
Post‑qualification experience (or equivalent) of supervised clinical practice
Experience of working with older people
Maintenance of mandatory training requirements set by NHS Lanarkshire
A commitment to post qualification CPD according to BPS guidelines
A working knowledge of other mental health professions
