Reports to the Supervisor and will play a key role in the day-to-day operations, projects and initiatives that will support Elexicon’s vision of empowering the communities we serve and help customers seize opportunities to ignite a better future.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare routine and special load studies and develop servicing plans for enhancement or expansions to reflect main feeder, substation, and supply point adequacy.
  • Conduct technical/economic/regulatory impact assessments and other specialized technical studies to determine distribution system needs for distribution stations, lines, and distributed generation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, station operations, and external parties) to assess the need for new substations, upgrades, or expansion of existing facilities to support the growing electrical load and maintain grid reliability.
  • Develop robust business cases for replacements, rejuvenation, and maintenance of Elexicon’s station assets while ensuring alignment with regulatory and technical standards.
  • Review maintenance data, identify needs, write maintenance instructions, and develop short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance plans.
  • Lead the identification and evaluation of suitable locations for new substations or expansions, considering factors such as proximity to load centers, land availability, environmental impact, and future growth projections.
  • Review and analyze system loading and operating conditions and develop load forecasts based on historical data and system growth.
  • Participate in technical planning meetings with Hydro One, IESO, OEB, and regional municipalities.
  • Support developing a 5-year Distribution System Plan (DSP) and associated regulatory submissions such as ICM, interrogatory responses, etc.
  • Participate in developing/ maintaining a Strategic Asset Management Plan.
  • Prepare annual Asset Condition Assessment (ACA) reports and develop an Asset Replacement Plan (ARP).
  • Monitor the status of the distribution system and asset standards and carry out or suggest modifications and additions.
  • Assist with various administrative responsibilities such as compliance reporting of the Ontario Energy Board, input into regulatory filings, maintenance of asset data, performance indicators, etc.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced knowledge of power system concepts along with practical experience in distribution and station-related assets
  • Experience with distribution network reliability and power quality standards and reporting requirements
  • Experience with root cause analysis, failure reporting, analysis, and developing corrective action.
  • Experience with technical interconnection requirements for distributed energy resources (DERs), and/ or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Experience with power system tools such as CYME, EMTP, etc.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, regulatory evidence, and presentations as required by the Manager.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, etc.) and Computer Assisted Design (CAD) systems.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of GIS systems.
  • Knowledge of utility-related construction practices.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Regulation 22/04.
