GFL Environmental is looking for a Laboratory Technician to support our Commercial lines of business out of our Bowmanville site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to customers via site visits, sampling, and classification of waste materials.
  • Perform general laboratory and housekeeping duties, including report analysis and coordination with production personnel.
  • Assist with discrepancies of incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment safely in accordance with GFL Environmental Inc. transportation SOPs and government regulations.
  • Perform lab packing and unpacking duties.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including obtaining signatures.
  • Manage and maintain various data management systems.
  • Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
  • Perform routine sample preparation and analysis using ICP, GC, oxygen bomb calorimeter and other instrumentation.
  • Report analysis results and coordinate with production personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of analysis, maintenance, and production.
  • Assist other facility operators as needed.
  • Complete certificates of disposal and summaries of analysis as required.
  • Review analytical reports to ensure outgoing materials meet disposal site parameters.
  • Assemble and disassemble lab packs.
  • Bulking/blending of small quantity waste chemicals.
  • Assist with coding and shipment of lab-pack materials.
  • Provide assistance in emergency spill response (ER).
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Environmental or Chemical Engineering Technician or Technologist diploma.
  • Previous lab, sales and industry experience is an asset.
  • Competent computer skills (MS Windows and Office).
  • Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to work overtime and continental shift work.
  • Knowledge of TDG, Reg. 347 and Ontario Health and Safety Act is an asset.
