Compensation: $19.00 - $20.66 per hour
Position:
Inclusion Support Staff – responsible for advocating, providing individual support and adaptations for a child, youth, or young adult with special needs in a recreation program setting. Reports to the Program Supervisor – Inclusion, the Program Director – Inclusion, and/or the Community Recreation Coordinator.
- Develops and implements a daily/weekly action plan that fully accommodates the support needs of the participant.
- Develops weekly professional and participant-specific actionable goals.
- Assists in the development and implementation of adaptive programming for participants with special needs.
- Attends to the care needs (feeding, toileting, clothing changes, etc.) of participants with special needs.
- Ensures the safety and well-being of participants during program hours.
- Dispenses and administers participant medication as required.
- Provides lifts and transfers for participants as required.
- Provides behaviour management and takes appropriate action to deal with incidents/accidents and emergencies as outlined in departmental policies.
- Leads cooperative communication with participants, parents, colleagues and supervisors.
- Creates an inclusive program environment where participants participate fully, perform to the best of their ability, and learn new skills.
- Completion of Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Minimum 9 months to 1 year of experience; knowledge and experience related to the delivery of programs and services.
- Previous experience working/volunteering with children, youth, and/or young adults with special needs.
- Strong behaviour management skills.
- Strong understanding of delivering personal care (clothing changes, assistance in the washroom, etc.) with dignity and safety.
- Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification.
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
- Clear Criminal Reference / Vulnerable Sector check (within last 6 months) upon hire.
- Available to work a variety of shifts; mornings, afternoons, evenings on weekdays and weekends.
- Post-secondary education in Recreation / Therapeutic Recreation / PSW/DSW / Social Work / Education program.
- Hours of Work:
Non-union position up to 24 hours per week; shifts on weekdays and weekends between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. - Town Perks:
