Fitness Coordinator – Group Fitness

Reporting to the Active Living Supervisor, the Fitness Coordinator – Group Fitness is accountable for quality assurance, program planning, staff development, public relations and administration of designated portfolio. The Fitness Coordinator engages internal and external customers, outside fitness organizations and residents and provides expertise in the supervision and programming for instructional group fitness programs for Children, Youth, Adults, Older Adults & Seniors.

This position provides leadership to part‑time staff and ensures all areas of portfolio run efficiently and effectively.

Job Duties Include
  • Plans, implements, supervises, evaluates, and oversees all group fitness operations and programs at multiple facilities.
  • Schedules space for programs and services where applicable.
  • Investigates and implements enhancements based on industry standards and trends.
  • Maintains a Preventative Maintenance program compliant with National Professional Associations (CSEP, Canfitpro, ACSM) for the equipment ensuring a safe and functional space for members and staff.
  • Maintains a daily equipment cleaning program.
  • Receives and monitors program evaluation forms.
  • Responds to and records customer feedback forms in accordance with Town Customer Service standards.
  • Performs regular program visits and conducts Active Net maintenance for each session.
  • Provides customer service and active living education to residents.
  • Assists customers with program/membership/service selection.
  • Assists with development of membership promotions and retention.
  • Drafts content for program specific promotional flyers, the seasonal 55+ Recreation Guide, web content and social media posts.
  • Makes recommendation for hiring, discipline and dismissal as required.
  • Selects, trains coaches and supervises a large team of part‑time staff, as well as seasonal placement students.
  • Prepares staff schedules weekly, monthly and seasonally.
  • Creates a positive work environment where people want to do their best; recognizes collaborative and team‑based behaviours.
Qualifications/Skills
  • College diploma or University Degree in Health & Fitness or related studies.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ relative experience, with a minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience.
  • Canfitpro FIS Certification and/or industry related/recognized group fitness certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of fitness operations including legislation and industry standards related to the operation of fitness centres and programs.
  • Strong knowledge of fitness specific programming and services specific to Children, Youth, Adults, Older Adults/Seniors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as Active Net registration software.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED certification.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract.
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, time management and planning skills.
  • Strong Customer Service and Supervisory skills.
  • Enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to fitness and active living.
  • Maintains an active professional network within functional area of expertise to ensure up to date knowledge on trends and leading practices of profession.
  • Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search that is current (completed within the last 6 months), upon hire.
What is Offered to Staff
  • Rate of Pay: $93, 206 – $116, 507 per year.
  • Hours of Work:
    This is a non-union position that works 35 hours per week. The hours of work are typically Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., however early morning, evening and weekend shifts are required on occasion to attend meetings, programs and events.
