Position Overview

Nursing Unit Head – Delivery/Labour Room

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the daily operations of the Delivery/Labour Room to ensure the provision of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff, promoting professional development and evidence-based practice.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention and control standards, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee the care of women during labour, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period, ensuring optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes.
  • Monitor staffing levels, prepare duty rosters, and allocate resources to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient workflow.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, neonatologists, anaesthetists, midwives/nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Oversee patient admission, transfer, discharge, and emergency response processes within the unit.
  • Monitor clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal and professional standards.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, incident reporting, and risk management activities to enhance patient safety and service quality.
  • Ensure the availability, proper maintenance, and safe use of medical equipment, medications, and supplies.
  • Participate in recruitment, orientation, competency assessments, performance evaluations, and ongoing education of nursing staff.
  • Promote patient and family education, ensuring respectful, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care.
  • Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare operational reports as required by nursing leadership.
  • Participate in hospital committees, accreditation activities, emergency preparedness, and continuous quality improvement programs.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and excellence in patient care.
Qualifications
  • Nursing Degree (preferably MSc)
  • Valid nursing license
  • Minimum 10 years experience in clinical care and managerial roles within Nursing Administration
