Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe ASCPL is hiring a full-time (37.5 hours per week, including evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays) Public Service Assistant (PSA II) at the Firestone Park Branch Library to support our mission to provide resources for learning, leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages.
- Greets customers in a friendly and accessible manner.
- Assists customers in the selection and use of library materials.
- Answers varied reference questions and directs customers to additional resources.
- Provides instruction on library technology, including the internet and library databases.
- Interprets library policies and procedures in a customer-responsive manner.
- Maintains order and resolves problem situations as needed.
- Performs clerical duties, including receiving, sorting, and distributing library materials, mail, and catalogs.
- Shares materials from bindery and sends items to Technical Services for cataloging.
- Orders division supplies, inputs orders, and performs standard library routines (circulation, delivery, service desk coverage).
- Processes, sorts, shelves, and merchandises library materials.
- Performs opening and closing routines.
- Provides services to special populations and represents the library at community events.
- Maintains circulation records, processes holds, resolves disputes regarding circulation records, and performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent with some college coursework or Associate’s degree required. Knowledge of customer interests related to library materials, programs, and services, and knowledge of intellectual freedom principles are essential. Skill in customer service, ability to arrange materials alphabetically and numerically, use of a computer and job-related software, ability to lift light objects (less than 25 pounds) and carry them short distances, and pass criminal background and education verification screenings are required.
Preferred• Bachelor’s degree.
• Library work experience.
