Julie Billiart Schools is a network of schools serving children in grades K-8 with special learning challenges. Currently there are campuses in Akron, Brecksville, Lyndhurst and Westlake that offer unique learning environments for students with autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia and social learning challenges. We are Catholic, non-public schools that respect diverse faith traditions.

About the Opportunity

The Classroom Paraprofessional supports the teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and effective learning environment for Julie Billiart School students. This role is vital in assisting with classroom activities, helping to implement instructional plans, and providing individual and group support to ensure that all students are engaged, supported, and achieving academic and social success.

Essential Duties
  • Classroom Support
    • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities.
    • Support students in their learning, including providing one-on-one or small group instruction.
    • Help manage classroom behavior by reinforcing positive behavior and redirecting disruptive behavior.
    • Supervise students during classroom activities, including arts, social, and learning centers.
  • Student Assistance
    • Offer individualized support to students who need additional help with tasks, such as reading, writing, or using learning tools.
    • Aid students in developing social and emotional skills, including conflict resolution and collaboration with peers.
    • Monitor student progress and report any concerns to the teacher, including behavior, academic challenges, or personal issues.
  • Classroom Organization and Materials
    • Prepare and organize classroom materials, supplies, and teaching aids.
    • Ensure the classroom is clean, organized, and conducive to learning.
    • Assist with setting up learning centers, educational games, and other activities.
  • Supervision
    • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and other non-classroom activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
    • Assist with classroom transitions, ensuring students move from one activity or area to another smoothly and safely.
  • Assessment and Documentation
    • Assist the teacher in observing and documenting student behavior, work habits, and academic progress.
    • Participate in meetings to discuss student progress and develop strategies for supporting individual learning needs.
  • Communication
    • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Maintain open communication with the teacher regarding student performance and any observed needs or concerns.
Qualifications and Experience Education and Work Experience
  • Associate Degree or higher and/or have passed the Para Pro exam.
  • Some college coursework in education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with young children, particularly in an educational setting, is preferred.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • Ability to manage classroom behaviors and provide positive reinforcement.
