About the Opportunity

This is an open position with First Energy Service Co., a subsidiary of First Energy Corp. [FEU]. Onsite locations:
Akron, OH;
Fairmont, WV;
Greensburg, PA;
Reading, PA.

Responsibilities
  • Short circuit impedance modeling of the transmission and sub‑transmission lines, system interconnections, transmission and sub‑transmission substations and transformers to ensure system accuracy, compliance with NERC standards and reliable operation.
  • Modeling impedances of lines and transformers, air switch capability, and modeling aspects of power flow models.
  • Performing transmission modeling activities with the operating companies, other utilities, non‑utility customer load/generation, PJM, and Reliability First.
  • Discussions and resolutions to modeling discrepancies, questions and compliance concerns.
  • Developing and maintaining applications, queries, and macros.
  • Actively participate on industry working groups and forums to ensure First Energy is viewed as an engaged leader in transmission activities.
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase internal and external customer satisfaction and broaden/deepen relationships with neighboring companies, PJM, Reliability First, and NERC.
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment that values an open exchange of ideas to promote innovation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) license; (2) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (non‑ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
  • At least 2 years of engineering required.
  • Demonstrated analytical and reasoning capabilities, refined oral and written communication skills, including ability to effectively structure and confidently present information to peers and leadership.
  • Ability to work independently on broad assignments involving compilation, preparation, and analysis of statistical/analytical data, reports, statements, studies, or projects.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word.
  • Basic researching skills required.
  • Desire to continue to learn and grow, work across First Energy, and deliver results.
  • Ability to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Ability to work extended hours or after‑hours (e.g., evenings, weekends, and holidays) to provide onsite technical and operational guidance in support of system emergencies.
  • Self‑motivated, self‑starter, customer‑focused, and results‑oriented.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels across the FE organization as well as with outside parties.
Qualifications at the Level IV
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to effectively lead multi‑discipline team initiatives;
    Expectation to have a strong aptitude for mentoring.
  • Additional level‑IV qualifications include all items listed in the general Qualifications section.
