Safety and Environmental Specialist

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, local, and corporate EHS regulations and guidelines.
  • Conducting routine safety and environmental inspections, risk assessments, and audits.
  • Investigating incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Maintaining required records and preparing reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinating hazardous waste management, air and water permits, and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Supporting emergency response planning and conducting periodic drills.
  • Analyzing EHS data and trends to develop action plans and drive improvements.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams on safety initiatives and project reviews.
  • Promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.
  • Following all plant GMPs / Food Safety Requirements.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned and properly trained to complete.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar setting.
  • Certification(s) preferred: CSP, GSP, ASP, CHMM, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and relevant local/state environmental regulations.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives and influence teams.
  • Practical experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone).
Physical & Working Conditions
  • Frequent work in a hot and humid production environment.
  • Occasional work required outside in various temperatures.
  • This position may perform activities in an environment that contains hazardous elements and requires safety awareness and adherence to all safety policies and guidelines.
  • Work must be performed in a safe manner for personal protection and for the protection of other team members.
  • All safety procedures in all functional areas must be followed, enforced, and strictly complied with.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting, standing, walking, repetitive use of hands/arms/legs, and eye/hand coordination for 6+ hours a day.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or carry 50 pounds.
  • Occasional bending, reaching overhead, crouching, balancing, pushing, or pulling.
  • Able to access all areas of the plant including the roof and areas above equipment.
  • Ability to operate cars, trucks, and other powered equipment and tools.
  • Must be able to wear all PPE that is required.

$71,449 - $89,338 per year
