The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial leadership for the Trailhead Community Health Foundation, overseeing financial operations, investment management, risk assessment, and compliance. The CFO ensures transparency, accountability, and sustainability, aligning financial strategy with the Foundation’s mission to empower and support all we serve to lead healthy lives.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy- Develop and execute financial strategies that support the Foundation’s mission and growth.
- Provide financial analysis, insights and reports to guide strategic decision-making by the Board and executive leadership.
- Lead long-term financial planning, including forecasting, scenario modeling, and sustainability strategies.
- Manage and monitor the Foundation’s investment portfolio in collaboration with external advisors.
- Ensure investment policies align with fiduciary responsibilities, risk tolerance, and mission-related goals.
- Report regularly to the Investment Committee and Board on portfolio performance and market trends.
- Oversee accounting, budgeting, audit, tax, and treasury functions.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and nonprofit financial standards and reporting requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices.
- Lead annual audit and coordinate with external auditors.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Finance and Investment Committees.
- Present clear, accurate, and timely financial reports to the Board of Directors.
- Advise on financial implications of strategic initiatives, grants, and community investments.
- Supervise and mentor finance staff, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, collaboration, and excellence.
- Build organizational capacity by implementing best practices in financial management.
- Maintain positive and productive relationships with bank, investment, and audit firm partners
- Engage with relevant professional networks to remain updated on trends, challenges, and opportunities affecting foundations’ financial and growth plans
- Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred. - Experience
:
Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally in nonprofit, foundation, or investment management. - Proven track record managing complex investment portfolios and large-scale financial operations.
- Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting, tax compliance, and philanthropic finance.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Boards, committees, and diverse stakeholders.
