Join to apply for the Sterile Processing Specialist role at Akron Children's.

Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
Monday to Friday, 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Every other weekend and holiday rotation. Onsite, Akron, OH.

Summary

The Sterile Processing Specialist is certified in the process and is responsible for a combination of the following functions: decontamination, cleaning, assembly and sterilization of all instruments, and inventory control of Sterile Processing and Operating Room (OR) supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Decontamination, correct assembly, and sterilization of all instruments and equipment.
  • Inventory control of Sterile Processing and OR supplies.
  • Maintain working knowledge of regulatory standards for universal precautions, sterilization, and biological monitoring.
  • Operate all sterilization equipment and recognize equipment malfunctions.
  • Participate in educational efforts for the department, unit, and hospital.
  • Participate in hospital activities as directed by the Manager.
  • Serve as a resource to new staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Technical Expertise
  • Experience in Sterile Processing required.
  • Experience working with all levels within an organization required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software required.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification: CSPDT or CRCST (introductory certification) required.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience required.
  • Subject matter expert in two specialty areas required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to push and pull carts containing medical supplies and instruments.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during shift hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lb.
  • Exposure to biohazardous materials and sharp instruments; adherence to strict safety and infection control protocols required.
