The Government & Public Sector practice of Ernst & Young LLP provides a full range of consulting and audit services to help our State, Local and Education (SLED) clients implement new ideas to achieve their mission outcomes. We deliver real change and measurable results through our diverse teams, quality work at the highest standards, and creative ideas that drive innovation.

The Opportunity

Our GPS FAAS team is growing exponentially. As a Senior Manager you will play a key role in that growth, working across all Federal GPS sector service lines. You will develop your career by communicating creative, strategic goals both internally and externally while listening to and understanding our clients to deliver a truly exceptional experience.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Actively pursue business development activities, implementing strategies and tactical steps to identify opportunities.
  • Develop proposal responses, train staff, and execute engagement deliverables simultaneously.
  • Think on your feet and challenge existing practices to develop answers to complex issues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across multiple service lines, building relationships and identifying opportunities for clients to benefit from different practice areas.
  • Travel regularly to meet with key clients.
Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Develop and maintain strong, productive working relationships with advisory client personnel and assess client satisfaction.
  • Direct field work, inform supervisors of engagement status, and manage assurance staff performance.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of complex governmental accounting, budgetary reporting, and auditing concepts (e.g., GASB).
  • Lead people through effectively delegating audit tasks and providing guidance.
  • Provide performance feedback, training, and performance reviews for assurance staff.
  • Contribute ideas to assurance teams and listen to their views.
  • Foster an efficient, innovative, team‑oriented work environment.
  • Use technology to continually learn, share knowledge, and enhance service delivery.
  • Understand EY's service lines and encourage the team to apply the firm's services.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • U.S. CPA license in your work state.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business, with 10+ years of post‑college experience conducting financial audit and advisory work for SLED clients.
  • In‑depth understanding of US Governmental GAAP, GASB standards, Financial and Single Audit (Subpart F of the OMB Uniform Guidance) and OMB guidance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of preparing and auditing Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), Annual Financial Statements and Single Audit Report for SLED entities.
  • Proficiency in modified‑accrual reporting, grants management, and budgetary reporting.
  • Hands‑on experience with business development in the SLED space and proficiency in deal governance and proposal submission.
  • Experience with large regional or national not‑for‑profit clients (plus).
  • Excellent project management, communication, negotiation and collaborative management skills.
  • Track record of excellence managing, mentoring, and improving high‑performing teams.
  • Dedication to teamwork and leadership, integrity, and a professional environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance or higher.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30 % in federal practice and up to 80 % in state, local, and education practice.
Preferred
  • CGFM and/or CDFM certification.
