Base hourly pay: $21.00–$23.00 per hour (actual pay based on skills and experience).
Full‑time Parent & Youth Ambassador in Akron. The position works with a team to provide community support and facilitates family programming across six counties.
Reports to:
Community Services Supervisor.
Working conditions:
Office atmosphere with flexible schedule; occasional bending, lifting, travel throughout the region; community/field work, some evening hours; facilitation of large groups in churches, child‑care centers, and community centers.
- Recruit families for participation.
- Maintain fidelity to modeled training.
- Act as liaison between the Department of Children & Youth programs and families for smooth transitions to benefits.
- Participate in meetings to advocate for families’ needs.
- Engage families during community events (one‑on‑one interactions).
- Link families to appropriate services, resources, and programs as recommended.
- Maintain clear, organized, updated documentation.
- Participate in all aspects of program evaluation and research.
- Ensure strict confidentiality regarding all matters involving families.
- Communicate emergencies and critical changes to the supervisor promptly.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and events in a timely manner.
- Maintain a reliable calendar (virtual or paper) for meetings, professional development, and events.
- Properly evaluate programming: collect demographics, administer pre‑ and post‑course surveys, measure functional metrics, and complete other reporting requirements.
- Manage community sessions with goals, periodically assess community needs and advocate when necessary.
- Conduct small‐group presentations, schedule and facilitate support groups, and conduct problem‑solving sessions.
- Provide linkages and referrals to community agencies to help parents address barriers to positive parenting practices.
- Participate in community initiatives that promote positive parenting, healthy child development, and school readiness.
- Brainstorm specialized programming for parents with internal and external staff.
- Develop and provide family programming.
- Become certified to provide Parent Cafés.
- Be knowledgeable about child‑care resources available in the communities.
- Facilitate meetings and professional development opportunities on early‑childhood issues and best practices.
- Provide services to and manage a caseload of providers based on their needs and service deliverables.
- Associate’s degree in Community Service or a related field.
- Lived experience navigating benefits through the Department of Children & Youth (formerly Ohio Department of Job & Family Services).
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of available community resources.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and responsiveness to the served communities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and databases.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Non‑smoker.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field.
- Knowledge of social media platforms such as Instagram or Facebook.
- Familiarity with benefits offered by public agencies in at least one of the counties in the region (Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, & Trumbull).
