Assistant Transportation ManagerLocation:

Join our team as an Assistant Transportation Manager and help ensure the efficient and economical delivery of Gordon Food Service products.
Typical Responsibilities- Leadership – driver meetings, mentoring, motivating, ride‑along/coaching trips, and training.
- Team Management – participation in interviewing, hiring, training, performance assessments, and recognition.
- Operational Management – route balancing, dispatch, equipment assignments, backhaul scheduling.
- Regulatory Oversight – DOT, Federal, State, and Local regulations.
- Route Coverage – during vacations and absences.
Monday‑Friday. Start time 3 AM‑5 AM until route finish.

- At least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- CDL‑T certification preferred.
- Two to three years of previous transportation experience and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Clean driving record; as required by DOT and Gordon Food Service standards.
- Successfully passing a drug test that will assess drug usage and a background check.
- Must have knowledge of DOT, OSHA, Smith System (Keys to Safe Driving), and dispatch procedures.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.

Position SummarySupports the efforts of Gordon Food Service drivers in serving customers through the initial training of new drivers and ongoing coaching of all drivers. Provides input to manager on individual driver performance and plans to assist drivers in the continual improvement process. May be responsible for route balancing and assignment, temp routing, dispatching, equipment assignments, and backhaul scheduling. Facilitate or assist in conducting regular driver meetings.
Assure compliance with pertinent DOT, Federal, State, and Local regulations and requirements.
- Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them.
- Assists in interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining transportation associates.
- Assists the Transportation Manager in conducting performance assessment of staff. Initiates recognition of excellence or disciplinary action steps when appropriate.
- Conducts analysis of vehicle, driver and route assignments for high utilization; affects necessary changes to increase efficiency and lower costs.
- Regularly rides with driver to provide coaching and training. Serves as back‑up driver on routes to cover vacations, sick and miscellaneous coverage as appropriate.
- Performs administrative duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
- Serves as liaison between Sales Service Drivers, Sales, and customers to determine causes and impact of service opportunities and provide possible solutions to service issues.
- Supports other divisions when needed with a minimum of 2 consecutive weeks commitment.
- Ensures compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and governmental regulations. Supports departmental goals.
