School Background

Our client is a well‑established, co‑educational international school based in Al Ain, delivering a British‑based curriculum through to IGCSE in the secondary phase. The school has built a strong reputation for academic achievement alongside a broad and balanced extracurricular offering, and is known for its supportive, close‑knit staff community and genuine investment in professional development. Class sizes are manageable, resources are strong, and there is a real sense of pride in the school’s results and its pastoral care.

Who

Would Thrive Here

Teachers who bring genuine enthusiasm for literature and language, and who enjoy bringing texts to life in the classroom, will feel right at home here. The school particularly suits practitioners who are adaptable, collaborative and keen to contribute beyond the classroom, whether through clubs, trips or pastoral roles, and who are comfortable working within a culturally diverse, multinational staff and student body.

A good sense of humour, resilience and a willingness to embrace life in a new culture will go a long way.

About Al Ain

Known as the “Garden City” of the UAE, Al Ain is one of the country’s most attractive and live‑able cities, prized for its greenery, oases and slower pace of life compared with Dubai or Abu Dhabi. It is home to the UNESCO‑listed Al Ain Oasis and sits at the foot of Jebel Hafeet, a dramatic mountain offering hiking, cycling and sweeping desert views.

The city has a strong sense of Emirati heritage, with forts, museums and traditional souqs sitting alongside modern amenities, shopping malls and international restaurants. Family‑friendly and relatively low‑cost compared with the UAE’s larger cities, Al Ain is within easy reach of both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, each around ninety minutes away by car.

Required Qualifications
  • Valid teaching licence, such as a PGCE, QTS or a US teaching licence.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (in English or a relevant subject), or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English (or a related field) with a valid teaching licence or teaching qualification, or
  • Master’s Degree in English (or a related field) with at least three years of teaching experience, or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a valid teaching licence in the subject.
Essential Skills

Strong subject knowledge of English language and literature, with proven experience teaching IGCSE‑level content and a clear understanding of relevant exam board requirements. Confident classroom management, the ability to differentiate effectively for a range of learners including EAL students, and a track record of using assessment data to drive progress are essential. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to build relationships with students, colleagues and parents within an international setting, along with a genuine commitment to ongoing professional development.

Safeguarding

International educators are expected to demonstrate a thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles, including the ability to recognise and respond appropriately to concerns about a child’s welfare. Candidates should be able to evidence safe and professional conduct around children at all times, a clear understanding of codes of conduct for international school staff, and a willingness to undergo robust pre‑employment vetting, including reference checks, qualification verification and police clearance checks, both domestic and overseas.

A genuine commitment to creating a safe, nurturing environment for all students is essential.
