Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician supports the daily operations of the Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics Laboratory by performing laboratory testing, maintaining quality standards, ensuring compliance with laboratory procedures, and contributing to patient care through accurate and timely diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities- Perform Cytogenetic and Molecular Genetics testing, including karyotyping, PCR, CGH, karyomapping, DNA extraction, and related laboratory techniques.
- Ensure all laboratory activities are performed in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in the day‑to‑day operations of the Genetics Laboratory and support the Laboratory Manager as required.
- Coordinate laboratory activities with IVF and clinical teams.
- Participate in clinical discussions and support genetic counseling activities when required.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, documentation, and quality control data.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and updating laboratory policies, procedures, and quality management systems.
- Monitor laboratory equipment performance and report recurring technical issues.
- Ensure proper specimen handling, testing, result review, and reporting processes.
- Participate in research activities, quality improvement initiatives, and staff training programs.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all regulatory and ethical requirements.
- Participate in weekend and on‑call rotations as required.
- Support quality assurance and quality control programs.
- Monitor laboratory turnaround times and testing performance indicators.
- Report incidents, hazards, and non‑conformities and participate in corrective actions.
- Comply with Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) policies, procedures, and laboratory safety standards.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Diploma or certification in Medical Laboratory Technology (minimum 2‑year accredited program), or a Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or a related field meeting DOH requirements.
ExperienceExperience and eligibility as per DOH licensing requirements. Experience in Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics laboratory testing is mandatory.
Skills- Knowledge of cytogenetics and molecular diagnostic techniques.
