- Ensures work is performed within the required technical and patient confidentiality standards.
- In coordination with the Revenue Cycle Manager implements standard operating procedures and guidelines for the coding section.
- Provides leadership and guidance to staff when required to address issues or concerns.
- Train new and existing coding staff on coding expectations and meeting goals related to both quality and productivity, helping to upgrade service codes and generate higher revenue.
- Act as a mentor and resource to Coding Team members.
- Monitor tasks to improve billing practices and increase revenue.
- Audit both IP and OP charts regularly, share audit results with the team, and ensure that performance improvement plans are implemented.
- Submit audit reports monthly to the corporate audit team.
- Attend training and meetings to receive updated billing and coding information.
- Assess staff level and coordinate with the Revenue Cycle Manager to meet defined KPIs.
- Report all staffing deficiencies and disciplinary issues to the Revenue Cycle Manager, providing all necessary documentation for proper review and action.
- Ensure adherence to objectives, operating policies, and procedures, and establish strategic action plans for achieving goals.
- Provide leadership and motivation by setting clear expectations and communicating specific performance feedback to the Revenue Cycle Manager, ensuring timely and thorough performance reviews using internal measurement monitoring standards.
- Communicate coaching needs for staff who fail to perform and deliver the prescribed performance output and standards to the Revenue Cycle Manager.
- Bachelor or any other degree in Paramedical with coding certification from AAPC/CPC/AHIMA; DRG coding and EMR knowledge preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience using ICD and CPT coding, with a proven track record supervising day to day functions of a medical coding team.
- Strong supervisory competencies in leadership, team development, coaching, mentoring, and situational assessment skills.
- Proficiency with computer and related software applications and MS Office programs.
- Effective judgment and decision making skills as a supervisor.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills applicable to interactions with co workers, supervisors, customers, and all organization levels.
- Strong ethics and a high level of personal and professional integrity.
