The Research Assistant will support laboratory research in human nutrition, with a primary focus on cell biology and in vitro digestion. Responsibilities will include conducting standardized gastrointestinal digestion experiments, maintaining and working with mammalian cell cultures, particularly intestinal and hepatic cell models, and performing biochemical and cellular assays. The role will also involve sample preparation, laboratory documentation, data collection and analysis, and supporting ongoing research projects investigating food digestion, bioaccessibility, intestinal responses, inflammation, and metabolic health.
Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Biotechnology, or a closely related field. The candidate should have strong hands-on laboratory experience and an excellent understanding of cell biology, molecular biology, biochemical laboratory techniques, and experimental research. Practical experience in mammalian cell culture maintenance and handling, as well as qPCR-based gene expression analysis, is required.
Preferred QualificationExperience working independently in a research laboratory and contributing to manuscript preparation and scientific publications.
Expected SkillsAt least 2 years of relevant research or laboratory experience, preferably in cell biology, molecular biology, nutrition or biomedical research. Strong practical skills in mammalian cell culture, cell line maintenance, qPCR, gene expression analysis, biochemical and cellular assays, and experimental data handling are required. Experience with in vitro gastrointestinal digestion, particularly INFOGEST-based methods, is highly desirable. The candidate should be able to work independently, maintain accurate laboratory records, analyse experimental results, and contribute to research reports and scientific manuscripts.
