Special Education paraprofessionals assist students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. They generally work in an inclusionary setting (least restrictive environment), supporting daily classroom activities, helping students succeed academically, and caring for their physical, emotional health and safety. Paraprofessionals affirm students’ abilities and promote dignity in all relationships.
Responsibilities- Assist students in achieving academic success.
- Work with students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class.
- Provide behavior support, including physical management (training provided upon hire).
- Provide personal care, facilitate social integration, and consult and collaborate with Special Education, Regular Education teachers, and related service staff.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two‑year associate’s degree or 48 semester hours of verifiable college coursework, or the ability to pass the Work Keys proficiency test.
- Licensed as a Registered Certified Nursing Assistant in Colorado, CPR, and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to become CPI Restraint Trained.
- Preference for those who have taken education classes or have demonstrated working with young children.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license.
