THE OPPORTUNITY
The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for a temporary full-time opportunity in the capacity of Educational Assistant .
Location: 1.0 FTE;
Grand Valley & District Public School
Note:
School location/geographical area cannot be guaranteed in perpetuity and are subject to change based on student and system needs
FTE and Hours: 1.0 FTE = 32.50 hours per week; full-time
Hourly Rate of Pay : $30.92 - $36.74 per hour, plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the ESA; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Start Date: As soon as possible.
End Date: Unknown end date not to exceed June 26, 2026.
Board Information: 10-month position (yearly from September – June following the school year calendar); temporary; full-time;

Reporting to the school Principal, the Educational Assistant must possess willingness, along with the physical ability, to work with all of our students who have many diverse needs.
Consideration of Applications: Applications from employees within the UGDSB as well as external applicants will be accepted. Applicants will be considered in the following order, in accordance with the relevant Collective Agreement articles.
- Qualified casual ESSP Bargaining Unit employees
- Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)
Responsibilities:
- Educational Assistants work with students with many diverse needs. This work provides support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student
- Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and application of BMS.
- Educational Assistants work with students both individually and/or in a group setting
- Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications:
- Educational Assistant Diploma, and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
- Post-Secondary Degree in a related field of study
- A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification is required for this position
- Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience is a definite asset
